Guest Post: Professional hair and makeup for photo sessions
As a professional makeup artist and a woman I believe that we are all beautiful with or without makeup. Each and every one of us has a unique story that has shaped us into who we are today – flaws and imperfections included. Throughout my career in the beauty industry I continue to meet many amazing ladies. One of the first questions I ask them is: “What is your favorite feature about yourself?” We need to learn to love ourselves the way we are... after all, that is who we will be spending the rest of our lives with. I also believe that we deserve a little TLC every now and then. Makeup is used to bring out the beauty that is already there. It can help you shine from the inside out and just make your day better.
Whether you like a more natural look or you like to go all out, here are three reasons why you should consider your makeup and hair done by a pro when you are planning on taking professional photos.
1. Give yourself some “me-time”.
How often do you get to sit down and relax and let someone else do the work? Our every day lives are so busy, we have so much scheduled. We keep running from one thing to the next as we try to fit so much into the day. It's important to “schedule” time for yourself just like you schedule everything else. Taking care of yourself is a part of taking care of those around you – you can't pour from an empty cup. Getting your hair and makeup done can be a part of that pampering experience where you get to sit back and wind down a little. A lot of my clients find this process very relaxing. I even heard many times that it makes them feel “like a diva”. Why not give yourself that diva status every once in a while!
2. Professional expertise - it's not just words.
You may have asked yourself why you shouldn't just do your own makeup. A professional stylist will make you feel beautiful without compromising your personal style. I always make sure to ask my clients about their preferences before I start. I want them to look like themselves, but in addition I have some tricks up my sleeve. Over the years I've tried many products and brands, I've seen a lot of different faces and practiced thousands of techniques. I know what works best with what skin tone and face shape, what looks best in a certain light and what will last throughout a photo session or event. After all, life is a constant learning process, it's good to be on the lookout for new knowledge. No matter what it is you are getting glammed up for – we have one goal – it's for you to feel beautiful on the inside and out.
3. These memories will last a lifetime.
Most likely you are having photos taken by a professional photographer to document a special time in your life. Whether it is a wedding, your pregnancy, the arrival of your newborn baby, a birthday or precious time with your family, the reason you do it is to keep the memory of that particular day alive. When you feel like the best version of yourself you are more likely to have the best day. It'll show in your photos! Every time you look at those wonderful portraits you will remember that special feeling.
